Black & White All Mixed Up
Designers this season, mixed the fabrics and patterns in a way that complimented one another perfectly. Go in your closet and give it a go! I paired mine with a nice white blazer and a summer print.
It was everywhere on the runways for spring/summer. Again Michael Kors wows with the classics. Note how he incorporated lace in the skirt, and mixed it all up with a sporty strip mix at the top. How will you mix us the classic black and white combo this season?
What 2 Wear: to a Last Minute Engagement like Prom like Super Model Nina Agdel
(photo)
Nina Adel, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition's 2012 Rookie of the Year was such a doll this prom season as a young teenager asked Kate Upton to Prom and she couldn't make it so young Nina, who didn't have the chance to go to her own prom jumped at the chance to make a young boys dream come true. So what would you wear if you had a last minute formal engagement to attend? Where would you go to find a dress? Well I can tell you what I did for my daughters cotillion, I searched every store in the east, sparing no expense to no avail until........ I found this Adrianna Papell gown. It was love at first site and you couldn't guess where I picked it up?
Lunchbox Lovely: Mexican Sausage and Chickpea Salad
Mexican Sausage and Chickpea Salad
Last weekend Dawn from The Crispy Sage spoke at our Work@Health Expo and let me tell she is a true foodie. Her knowledge about food and flavor is amazing so when she says something is good I know I have to try it. On her site, The Crispy Sage, she made a Mexican Chipotle Sausage that is boldly spicy and reminiscent of smoky chorizo, which looked so lunchbox lovely and totally delicious. This vegan salad is bright, refreshing, and will absolutely awaken your tongue. It would make a perfect picnic treat or office lunch treat.
To up the nutritional content, serve a scoop of the salad over a bed of greens. Dawn warns that this salad is deceptively filling, which is never a bad thing, except if you have a really boring meeting planed after lunch. So a very small portion, especially when served with greens, will quickly fill you up. It is a fiber bomb, so chew it well and savor it slowly. Check out The Crispy Sage for more great recipes.
Mexican Chipotle Sausage and Chickpea Salad
Serves 4
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 10 min
Total Time: 20 min
Ingredients
1 can chickpeas, or 425 grams of cooked chickpeas, drained
2-3 large roasted red peppers (jarred is fine)
2 links Fields of Roast Mexican Chipotle sausage (soy free)
OR
1/2 Trader Joe’s Soyrizo (gluten-free)
Large handful of parsley, chopped roughly
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
3 tablespoons EVOO
1 tablespoon rice or white wine vinegar
Juice of 1 small lemon, or half of a large
A few handfuls of spinach or arugula (optional, for serving)
Instructions
1. Cut the peppers into strips and put them in a large mixing bowl with the chickpeas.
2. Set a small saute pan over medium heat with a drizzle of oil (EVOO or coconut).
3. Cut the sausage into 1/2 inch thick slices (the Trader Joe’s version tends to crumble, but this is not a problem). Saute over medium heat until just lightly crisped on both sides, roughly 5-7 minutes. Add sausage to bowl with chickpeas and peppers.
4. Make your dressing: combine the spices, EVOO, vinegar, and lemon juice in a small bowl. Mix well.
5. Add the parsley to the chickpea mixture. Pour dressing over salad. Toss to combine.
6. Put a nice handful of greens on a serving plate. Top with a scoop of the sausage-chickpea salad. Enjoy!
Spot On
In business and in fashion, I am slowly learning that even though your recommendations may be spot on, everyone is not ready to make a change. I also have found that people generally are not as afraid of making the change as that they are with the uncertainty that comes along with the change. So if you are thinking of making a change, regardless if it is trying a new fashion trend like mixing prints or in business like trying out a new position, just focus on what is not changing and you will soon see that change is not as scary as you think. Trying to be spot on like me this season then try out some of these spotty fashion finds.
Preppy Print
Spring is here! The flowers are in full bloom and almost everywhere but in my wardrobe. Until recently closet was lacking a few blossoms and then I found this amazingly comfortable high-low, printed dress on sale for $10 at Target. If you are lucky I am sure you too can find one in a local Target near you.
What 2 Wear 2: A Play
When going to see a play what do you wear? For me dressing up just seemed right and reminiscent of show times in NY. We attended a play called Other Desert Cities for a fundraiser at Arena Stage in DC. I was an amazing experience and the shows witty political humor kept the sober tones of the content upbeat. We laughed and cried multiple times, so you know that is a It is such a great opportunity to break away front the ho hum fashion of every day and put on something pretty however in DC it is completely appropriate to wear jeans or what professional casual look you would like. I loved my friend Kay's jeans, blazer and bold top and accessories as well as my mothers choice to pair bold brights with a white blazer.
Next time I think we will add this great dinner option from Station4. You can use their valet, begin your dinner with an appetizer then an amazing dinner and all for $35. To top it off you can come back after your show for dessert, which is also included. What a great date night and savings! Valet for Arena stage is $25 so you are getting valet, appetizer, dinner and desert for just a little more.
Weekend Wrap Up
This blog is all about living life with all your might and filling each day with every opportunity to try something new. So having a packed schedule is no new concept for the So Work Week Chic reader as I am sure that you too live your busy lives with flare, with that said I thought I would do a weekend wrap up to share a little bit about my life with you so:
- On Friday morning I played a round of golf with my husband at Jefferson Golf Course before putting him on a plane to Oregon for his fathers 60th birthday. So sad to see him go!
- I was happy to give my mother two tickets to attend Other Desert Cities with my family at our fundraising event showing in support of Brandy's Cotillion.
- Here is me outside of Arena Stage, a fantastically beautiful and modern play house in downtown DC.
- Me and my dad all gussied up during intermission. Did I mention how good and affordable their snadrinks were. LOL!
- Wake up early for Femworking Meeting. There is nothing like brainstorming with the best female minds in business.
- I ran out afterwards to buy my son some cool soccer shoes and gear and drop him off at his aunts before his game so I can attend our leadership conference at Calvary Church, shown here. It was a fantastic conference about the 8 types of people every leader needs to have in their corner.
- I left the conference at lunch to attend my sons soccer game and once it was over I returned to the conference to discuss future opportunities to strengthen our church. I then went home Brandy babysit a friends 3 kids while they got a long awaited night out. Jessie, so deserves some time off as she donates all over the community holding Zumba classes for others, like our church. She rocks!
- Up early Sunday to participate in the March of Dimes 4 mile walk in Reston Town Center with my mom, Brandy and my friend Melanie from my church. I love this cause, as I have lost 8 babies myself during my journey to have a child. So I like to support any research efforts that can help other women succeed in their dreams of being a parent I will try to be there.
- Then after the walk rushed back to church to hear a great message on leadership and promote the Work@Heath Expo that I am holding on May 18th.
- Here are my shoes pacing the 3 mile loop for the event on May 18th.
- Here is some of the foliage at out community pool where Brandy and I volunteered to help clean up our local community pool as it is the hub of our community.
- Here is the spoils of my late night gardening efforts, as I finsih planting my hostas in the dark to surprise my husband when he gets home.
- Here are my shoes as I try to look cute for my cutie, coming directly from a board meeting to the airport. I am so glad he is home safe and I can relax. I need a nap! LOL!
I hope you have a fantastic and eventful week! Remember have fun, stay chic!
