Suit Pursuit
For busy working women in a formal setting, the suit is often the easiest to throw on in the morning, so in pursuit of making a suit you already own a little more fashionable try buttoning up the jacket and adding a bow tie blouse. You can find them just about anywhere right now. I have my eye on a few listed for $9.95 at H&M. I will keep you posted.
Jewel Tone Diva
The tone of the season is Jewel, so if you cant afford to buys dome new baubbles. Then add some jewels to your nails. Jewel tones, I mean. Some examples of jewel tones include emerald green, amethyst purple, ruby red, topaz yellow, sapphire blue, tourmaline or topaz green, and turquoise blue. I felt like a jeweled tone diva in a purple tourmaline.
Pencil Skirt People
News
The figure-hugging pencil skirt will make you wiggle like Marilyn Monroe this fall! Setting the stage in Some Like It Hot, Marilyn's skirt became central to her allure. Tight, figure-hugging and to just below the knee, it was a classic pencil skirt. Fast-forward more than 50 years and it’s time to recreate that moment. Pencil skirts are the top shape this season – they seen have been seen everywhere from Donna Karan to Jonathan Saunders, Givenchy and Christopher Kane, and came in every fabric imaginable. Whichever one you choose, it’s time to channel your inner Monroe.Going Ape: What to wear to an outdoor activity
Wondering what to wear to an outdoor activity this autumn? I relied on a few pieces from Target to keep me looking fashionable while flying down the zip line with Calvary Church's Iron Man Men's Group Coed outdoor event. They always do really cool stuff, so I was very excited to be able to attend. We visited Go Ape, an outdoor obstacle course in the sky located in Rockville MD. My husband choose to rock a UT sweater while I opted for a more layered approach, with multiple tanks, jacket and a $5 scarf I picked up on sale at American Eagle. We both fared well and had a blast.
A Passion for Print
I have a new found passion for print. I have recently noticed that I do not have allot of pattern or printed pieces in my wardrobe so when I found this printed shear blouse at a local consignment shop for $8, I just had to pick it up. I paired it with a grey patterned trouser and a grey skinny belt from H&M.
Fall into Color
This season we are falling into color. Pairing neutral basics with hot hues. Today I was feeling pretty and pink, starting with a pink full skirt, one of falls hot skirt sillohettes and a matching drapey knit blouse. I refined the look vintage baubles and toned down the outfit with neutrals accesories and structured khaki jacket.
Thrifty New York, New York!
You can't beat the shopping and personal style that is in NY! It was a long day of thifting and I finally discovered a diamond in the rough. If you are in NY check out the Unique Boutique thrift shop near E 29th & 3rd. The prices are really good for this area and the selection was good as well. They have men and women's wears so check them out. I wanted to catch a show tonight so I pulled together this outfit with some of my thrifted pieces from Unique Boutiqe, I got this "sumptous chatreuse" v-neck pull over for $7.99 (it is a merchandising sample from '09, still had the tags on it) and this wool skirt for $8.99. I paired it with a $7 scarf, $25 suede wedge boots from Ross, a skinny black belt and my suit jacket and painted the town red! When you are traveling always save some room in your suit case to bring home your treasures.
Conference Considerations
Planning to attend a conference sometime soon. Here are a few things to consider, try not to find yourself:
Under-prepared – There tend to be after hour networking opportunities at these events so pack a dress with a jacket or blazer. The jacket generally helps men distinguish that you are with their group verse other women at the venue. You don’t want to loose out on great rapport building because someone can’t discern if you work with them or not. After hours I wore this number out to see "Mountain Top" on Broadway.
Over-prepared- If you show up to a 3 day conference with huge bags people may question your planning abilities. Remember a conference is not to show off what you have in your closet but to look crisp and professional.
High Heel Hell- Depending on the event you could be on your feet for 5 hours straight so make sure that you pack a stylish flat or comfortable heel for those days that never end. In my case there long days in the classroom and long nights shopping.
Underestimation- “Business Casual” or “Resort Wear” can be confusing so make sure you pack something that can take you outfit up a notch like pearls or a jacket, if need be. You don’t want to show up in flats and khakis when everyone else is in heals and a suit. It is much easier just to remove the blazer and make the outfit more casual, then not have one when you need it.
