Blooms continue to flourish on clothing and accessories for fall. This season florals will be fun with a bit darker hue, blossoms with darker backgrounds, vintage-inspired prints will be added with opaque tights and boots.

A Nod to Our Heritage: Searsucker with a Bold Update
For our family heritage celebration, we had a presenter come speak about genealogy. We learned about Familysearch.org, where you can look up your family tree for free. It got me to thinking, where my style sense came from and who in my family was most influential? It didn't take me long to come up with that my style definitely came from my grandmother. She worked at the White House with my grandfather and they wore chic suits all the time. Making me want to follow in their footsteps. In recognition of the month and with thoughts of my grandmother, I wore a classic seersucker blazer and keep the look current, by pairing it with a bold colored dress.

#MyCosmoStyle: Key Pieces to Take You From Day to Night in Vegas
It has been a year or so since my last trip to Vegas and I am dreaming of taking business trip to Vegas for the SHRM Conference next summer. I had already started thinking about where I would go on my trip if it works out and then Vegas.com contacted me about their #MyCosmoStyle blog challenge, and since I love the Cosmopolitan Hotel, I jumped at the chance to share one of my favorite Vegas hotels with you. You can book your trip to the Cosmopolitan hotel through Vegas.com here. If I were there right now, I would be running out to try the trendy brunch at the Wicked Spoon.

Next, I would get a drink at the swanky Vesper Bar while I wait to check into my amazing room. Then I would run and jump on to the super soft hotel beds in the Cosmo's super posh, blue city rooms. After that, it is up to one of Vegas's top pools the Boulevard for sunning or the Marquee Day-club if I am feeling ready to the party started. The last time I was at the Cosmopolitan, it was super hot outside and as I lounged at the pool getting a tan, they had a cooling mist coming from the walls, it was like paradise.

When traveling to Vegas you must make the most out of every piece of clothing you bring because in a hotel like the Cosmopolitan there are endless opportunities for fun. I chose this outfit for its ability to transform quickly from night to day. During the day, this look is strictly business. It would be perfect for a conference, hitting the casino or dining at the deliciously decadent Jaleo. At night, just exchange the top for something cropped, add a blazer and you are ready for the any one of the Cosmo's night-clubs, lounges or bars.

Fit to Be Tied, Bow Tied That Is
(1)
I don't know if it was all the bows on the runways this season or National Bow Tie day in August that inspired me to get all tied up. Either way bow ties are all the rage this season. Obviously they are workplace ready and usually just for the boys but this Friday this playful pairing was just right for me as I played with this amazing Lo Rez/High Fi participatory public artwork piece that plays really pretty sounds on Vermont Avenue in Washington, DC every time you touch it. You have to check it out. It even lights up when you touch it. How cool! Next time in DC you will have to check it out.
How to Select a "Work" Dress that Will Last You all Year
Everyone needs a dress that
you can wear anywhere. I call it the "work"
dress. As I have posted, I have worn this versatile "work"
dress to the airport, to work and to the mall. So what should you look for
when selecting your "work" dress? Keep these 3 points in
mind:
- Choose a
modest silhouette- You can select one that flatters your shape
- Select a dress
in a flattering tone- Pick a piece saturated in color. A dress bold enough
to be noticed but classic enough to be worn everywhere.
- Stick to a
plain pattern- This will allow it to go with everything.
Keeping
these thoughts in mind you will be able to find the perfect "work"
dress. This dress then can be worn casually with
some flats and a cardigan or dressed up with pumps and classic jewelry like I have done here.
Let the other professionistas in on your favorite work dress and what you like
about it.
